Trump Calls for Schiff’s Imprisonment Over Alleged Mortgage Fraud
President Donald Trump intensified his criticism of California Senator Adam Schiff, demanding his imprisonment over allegations of mortgage fraud. In a Sunday night post on Truth Social, Trump claimed Schiff fabricated loan documents, warning he’s in “BIG TROUBLE” and should “pay the price of prison.”
The feud between Trump and Schiff dates back to Trump’s first term, when Schiff played a key role in the Russia investigation and Trump’s 2019 impeachment. Trump’s latest accusations followed a July 15 post alleging that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division uncovered a “sustained pattern of possible mortgage fraud” by Schiff.
Trump accused Schiff of misrepresenting his primary residence by claiming a Maryland home to secure a lower mortgage rate while also benefiting from a California tax exemption on another property. Schiff’s spokesperson responded by saying the senator acted on legal advice and disclosed his dual residency. A Fannie Mae report reviewed by the Los Angeles Times noted inconsistencies but did not accuse Schiff of criminal wrongdoing.
Financial crime experts say such cases rarely go to trial and are usually settled with fines or restitution. Prosecutors would likely focus on whether Schiff personally signed the disputed documents and whether he lived full-time in the Maryland home.
Despite no formal charges, Trump continues to push the narrative. “Mortgage Fraud is very serious, and CROOKED Adam Schiff… needs to be brought to justice,” he wrote. Schiff has not publicly responded to Trump’s latest demands for prosecution.
