The House, under GOP control, has approved a measure mandating the federal government to deport any illegal immigrant who assaults a police officer, despite the opposition from a majority of Democrats.
The legislation was passed with a vote tally of 265 to 148, with 54 Democrats joining the GOP in support. This legislation, known as the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act, is spearheaded by Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J.
Rep. Van Drew stated, “There is no justification for an illegal alien who attacks our law enforcement to remain in our country; such actions demonstrate a complete disregard for our rule of law and institutions, and they will not contribute positively to society.”
The bill requires federal authorities to detain illegal immigrants until their deportation. Additionally, it creates a new category of inadmissibility for migrants, specifically aimed at illegal immigrants accused of assaulting police officers, as noted by Van Drew.
Following the bill’s passage, Rep. Tom Emmer, the House Majority Whip and the No. 3 Republican, remarked, “House Democrats have chosen to protect violent illegal immigrants over our courageous law enforcement officers. Once again, the Democrat Party demonstrates that they are the most anti-law enforcement party in history.”
A surprising new poll from CNN reveals that the Democratic Party is significantly trailing the Republicans on economic issues, a fact that astonished CNN data analyst Harry Enten.
After months of Democrats and their media allies attempting to instill fear in Americans regarding Trump’s tariff proposals, the data analyst expressed his surprise at the ineffectiveness of their messaging.
“You would expect that after all the turmoil, Kate Bolduan, during the initial months of Donald Trump’s presidency, particularly the first four months, Democrats would have a substantial lead on economic matters. However, that is not the case. It is not the case,” he stated to CNN anchor Kate Bolduan.
“The political party that aligns most closely with your economic perspectives. In November 2023, the Republicans led by 11 points. Currently, it remains within that range, still within the margin of error, with an eight-point advantage for the Republican Party,” stated the data analyst.
“How can this be, Democrats? How is it possible after all the fears of recession, after the fluctuations in the stock market, after the tariffs that are unpopular among Americans, and yet Republicans maintain an eight-point lead regarding the economy? Are you serious?” he remarked.
“How is this — when we analyze trends, how does this correlate with other data you are gathering?” the anchor asked.
“Indeed, if this were solely based on one CNN poll, it would be one matter. However, consider the Reuters/IPSOS data. What do we observe here? The party with a superior economic strategy. In May 2024, just prior to Donald Trump’s re-election, Republicans had a nine-point lead,” Enten explained.
“Examine our current situation in May 2025. The advantage has actually increased by three points. Now, Republicans possess a 12-point lead regarding the party with a more effective economic plan. This is noteworthy, especially after several months of purported economic uncertainty, during which the stock market has been volatile, and the tariff disputes that Americans oppose have persisted. Yet, despite all these factors, the Democrats are trailing by 12 points on economic issues. This highlights the Democratic challenges regarding the economy more effectively than almost any other indicator you could consider,” the astonished data analyst commented.
“The Republicans continue to maintain an edge on this crucial issue of the day. This is why, even if Donald Trump’s approval ratings have dipped slightly, Republicans are still very much in the game, as they retain a distinct advantage on economic matters, whether one examines CNN’s polls or the IPSOS poll, which shows a 12-point lead on the economy,” he concluded.
