At first, I was shocked. Technically, she wasn’t stealing—the house and everything inside it were in my son’s name. For months, he had begged me to sell my things because he “needed the money urgently.” I refused every time, telling him that he could have everything after my death, but as long as I was alive, the house and its contents were untouchable. But while I lay helpless in bed, my daughter-in-law had taken advantage of my illness to empty my home and sell off everything I loved. I am heartbroken and utterly devastated.
