11 US States Under High Wind Warning – Details

The National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York, has issued a high wind warning from 4 p.m. today until 7 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025. Several counties, including Broome, Onondaga, and Tompkins, are affected, with cities like Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton bracing for winds of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. These conditions may cause downed trees, power lines, and widespread outages. Other states, including North Carolina, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, are also under similar warnings. Travel could be hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles, and residents should secure outdoor objects and stay indoors when possible.

Bob Oravec from the Weather Prediction Center warned that this is a “high-impact storm,” particularly for the Northeast, where heavy snow may transition to sleet and freezing rain. Winds could reach 70 mph, with persistent lake-effect snow over the Great Lakes through late Monday or even Tuesday. As the storm moves, Arctic air from Canada will sweep into the Great Plains and south-central U.S., bringing the season’s coldest temperatures. Another storm is expected to hit the Central Plains on Monday night, the Mid-Atlantic by Wednesday, and the Northeast by Thursday.
