Left Behind at the Airport: Grandma’s Unexpected Journey

I found out through a tearful call from Grandma Ruth that my family had left her behind at the airport. Aunt Liz said pushing her wheelchair was “too much trouble” and that Grandma was moving too slowly. They just boarded the plane without her.

Furious, I canceled all their reservations and rebooked a luxury suite for Grandma and me. Meanwhile, Aunt Liz and Uncle Ron arrived in paradise with nowhere to stay or return home.

Grandma and I spent the weekend enjoying massages, ocean views, and room service. She admitted Liz and Ron had been sidelining her since Mom died. “I didn’t want to be a burden,” she said. I told her, “You never were.”

Now Grandma lives with us, filling our home with warmth and wisdom. The kids adore her—and so do I. Sometimes standing up for those we love means a little revenge…and a lot of spa days.
