My Car’s Previous Owner Called, Begging to Retrieve Something He Left under the Seat — When I Saw What It Was, I Went Pale

When Samira buys a used Toyota Corolla, it feels like a quiet win—a step forward in her new, frugal life as an aspiring writer. But the morning after her purchase, she gets a call from a stranger claiming to be the car’s previous owner. He sounds panicked. “I left something alive under the seat,” he says, pleading to meet.

Though hesitant, Samira agrees to meet him in a nearby park. The man, Ben, arrives with a nervous smile and retrieves a small, air-holed box from beneath the seat. Inside? Live insects—food for his little brother’s pet gecko, accidentally forgotten during the car handoff.

Relieved and amused, Samira bursts into laughter, and Ben soon joins in. To make up for the scare, he offers to take her out for coffee. She agrees—with one condition: a stop at the car wash first.

As they drive off together, she learns about Ben’s life and his bond with his younger brother. Their awkward morning turns into something warm and unexpected—almost like a story she’d write herself.

Lesson: Sometimes, life’s strangest moments bring the most surprising connections—if you’re open to them.
