Three Dead, One Missing After B.C. Mudslide Near Lillooet
The bodies of three men have been recovered following a devastating mudslide near Lillooet, B.C., according to RCMP. One man remains missing.
Search teams located one body Wednesday and two more on Thursday. A woman was also found dead earlier in the week—marking the first confirmed fatality from the extreme weather that triggered the slide on Highway 99 (Duffey Lake Road) on November 15.
Efforts to locate the fourth missing man have been hindered by poor weather and dangerous terrain. As of now, all search operations have concluded, though authorities are evaluating next steps.
Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe offered condolences: “My heart goes out to the grieving families and to the loved ones of the individual still missing. This has been a deeply difficult year for B.C.”
The highway remains closed, with no reopening date announced. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and notify their families.
