Trump Administration to Impose Steep Fines on Illegal Immigrants Refusing to Self-Deport

Trump Administration Plans Daily Fines for Illegal Immigrants

The Trump administration has announced a policy to fine illegal immigrants $998 per day if they fail to comply with deportation orders. Fines can be applied retroactively for up to five years, potentially exceeding $1 million. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “Illegal aliens should use the CBP Home app to self-deport and leave the country now. If they don’t, they will face the consequences.”

Self-Deportation Options Offered
The DHS promotes voluntary departure through the CBP Home app. A flyer promises benefits like keeping earned income, eligibility for future legal immigration, and subsidized flights. “Self-deportation is safe. Leave on your own terms,” it reads. But refusing could lead to seizures, arrest, or jail.

Controversy and Legal Concerns
Critics argue the fines are excessive and unfair, especially for families and those unaware of their deportation orders. Legal experts question the constitutionality of retroactive fines and their potential violation of due process.

Aggressive Enforcement Continues
Despite backlash, officials like Kristi Noem and Corey Lewandowski support aggressive operations targeting illegal immigrants. The administration remains firm: “Anyone… committing crimes and has broken our laws will face consequences.”
