When my father-in-law, Richard, bulldozed my cherished garden to build an unauthorized pool, I was furious. But as the saying goes, karma has its way of working things out. It all started innocently when Richard suggested a pool in our small backyard.
Despite my protests, he went ahead and bulldozed the garden while Tom and I were away for the weekend. Returning home, I found my garden destroyed, replaced with a massive hole. Richard grinned, thinking I’d be grateful for his “gift.”
Tom was furious, but my heart broke as I stared at the wreckage. Tom promised to fix it, even hiring a professional gardener to restore the garden I’d spent years nurturing. The next day, karma began its work. Our neighbor, Mrs. Jensen, caught wind of Richard’s actions and tipped off the city inspector. Richard’s pool plans were shut down due to lack of permits and building codes. To make matters worse, the contractors hit an old water pipe, flooding the yard. Richard slipped into the mud, his suit ruined.
Richard had to pay for all the damages, including fines and repairs. In the end, his enthusiasm for home improvements vanished. My garden thrived again, and I learned that sometimes karma makes the biggest splash.
