When his mother asked him to help her, the son replied: “I don’t owe you anything!”

Susan Thompson’s hands trembled as she dialed her youngest son, Ben’s number. Her old washing machine had finally broken, and a new one was due soon. Feeling the weight of her loneliness, she called her son, but it was his wife, Olivia, who answered. Their conversation turned bitter, with Olivia mocking Susan’s financial struggles and belittling her for asking for help. Susan’s heart sank as she realized how far apart she had grown from her children, especially since her husband’s death.

She called her older son, Michael, but he was away. Feeling humiliated, Susan decided to take matters into her own hands. She canceled the new washing machine delivery, sold her apartment, and bought a small cottage in the countryside with the money.

When her sons arrived at the empty apartment, they found a letter from Susan. She explained her decision to stop burdening them and move on with her life. In her new cottage, Susan felt free, away from their disapproving expectations.

Months later, Ben arrived at her doorstep, holding roses and apologizing for his behavior. Susan welcomed him with open arms, finally feeling respected and loved. Sometimes, you need to lose everything to earn the love and respect you deserve.
