During a July 9 Iranian TV broadcast, Mohammad-Javad Larijani, senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, joked that Donald Trump could be targeted by a micro-drone while sunbathing at Mar-a-Lago. Laughing, he said, “Trump can no longer sunbathe… a micro-drone might strike him right in the navel.” He later added, “Of course, we fight like men,” seemingly backtracking.
The unsettling comment quickly caught U.S. media attention. When Fox News host Peter Doocy asked Trump about it, the former president replied dryly, “It’s been a long time. I don’t know, maybe I was around seven or so,” before dismissing the threat: “I guess it’s a threat… I’m sure it’s not, but perhaps it is.”
The remark comes shortly after Trump confirmed he would “absolutely” consider another strike on Iran if intelligence suggested nuclear activity. He referenced a recent U.S. operation in June targeting three nuclear sites and said, “Absolutely, it has to be unbelievable.”
Responding to Larijani’s comments, the U.S. Secret Service declined to address specific threats but reaffirmed its commitment to protect all its charges amid a “heightened and dynamic threat environment.”
The exchange highlights continued tension between the U.S. and Iran, with Trump maintaining a firm stance on national security.
