GOP Rep. Says “Deport Ilhan Omar” — Sparks Firestorm

Texas Republican Rep. Brandon Gill caused outrage after posting on X that America would be “better off” if Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar were deported to Somalia. His comment followed a video where Omar advised immigrants—some possibly undocumented—on how to interact with ICE agents. She emphasized they’re not obligated to answer questions and should seek legal counsel.

Critics, including conservative influencer Greg Price, accused Omar of helping illegal immigrants evade deportation. Supporters of Gill called Omar “anti-American,” while some suggested expelling her from Congress.

Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen and former refugee, dismissed the attacks. “These people are just idiots,” she told journalist Mehdi Hasan, calling the current political discourse “embarrassing.” She tied the rhetoric to rising anti-immigrant sentiment and the legacy of Donald Trump.

Gill’s spokesperson doubled down, claiming Omar’s advice shows “where her loyalty lies.” The clash reflects deep political divides over immigration and national identity, with each side accusing the other of harming America’s future.
