Trump Shrugs Off Record-Low Approval Ratings Amid Growing Criticism

President Donald Trump is under fire after a new Quinnipiac poll showed his approval rating has plummeted to just 38%, the lowest in 80 years. Despite this, Trump declared on Truth Social, “Great Poll Numbers for Trump!”—citing an alternative poll with more favorable results.

The sharp decline comes after a flurry of controversial moves in just five months of his second term: a strict immigration crackdown, efforts to dismantle DEI programs, and a push for higher tariffs. Public sentiment is especially sour over his handling of the Russia-Ukraine war, with only 34% support.

Even Trump’s once-strong stance on immigration is slipping, with only 43% approval. His partnership with Elon Musk and the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is also drawing mixed reactions, though still backed by the GOP base.

Poll analyst Tim Malloy noted Americans are showing “little appetite” for Trump’s current direction. Still, Trump retains strong support from Republicans, men, rural voters, and ages 25–44.
