AOC Under Fire for Helping Immigrants Know Their Rights — And Now the DOJ Might Come Knocking
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held an online webinar to educate immigrants about their legal rights. It was public, bilingual, and filled with practical advice: you don’t have to open the door unless ICE has a warrant signed by a judge, you have the right to remain silent, and free legal help is available.
But now? She’s facing possible investigation by the Department of Justice.
The controversy erupted when former Trump official Tom Homan claimed the webinar could interfere with ICE operations and demanded the DOJ look into it. AOC says she hasn’t heard back from the DOJ, despite asking them directly if she’s under investigation. “They haven’t responded,” she told Fox News. “I was exercising my First Amendment rights.”
In a formal letter, she asked the DOJ to clarify if there’s truth behind the threats. Meanwhile, critics argue this is political retaliation — not justice. Supporters say she’s just doing her job: informing the people she was elected to serve.
AOC remains defiant — but concerned.
