Gov Ron DeSantis Announces Major Arrest in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has confirmed the arrest of Dr. Stephen Andrew Leedy, a 59-year-old physician from St. Petersburg, following a federal investigation into serious allegations involving inappropriate online behavior. The U.S. Department of Justice has charged Leedy with multiple federal offenses, which, if proven in court, could lead to a life sentence.

According to U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg, Dr. Leedy faces three counts connected to the creation of unlawful online material and two counts of attempting to influence underage individuals in harmful ways. Authorities allege that he used an online alias to communicate with several young people through messaging and video platforms.

Law enforcement officials say the investigation revealed digital communications with approximately ten minors. Authorities further allege that some of the exchanges involved suggestions that put the minors’ emotional and physical well-being at risk. One case, involving a young individual referred to as “Minor Victim 1,” is now under deeper examination due to its tragic outcome.

Governor DeSantis addressed the matter publicly, calling the allegations “deeply disturbing” and commending the FBI and state officials for their swift and coordinated response. “Florida will not tolerate actions that place our youth in danger,” he said. “We are committed to strengthening protections and awareness for families across the state.”
