FBI’s New Deputy Director Scores Big in Texas Drug Bust
In his first week on the job, newly appointed FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino oversaw a major success: the seizure of 150 kilograms of illegal drugs in Texas. The operation, led by the Houston field office, targeted a regional drug trafficking network and is one of the agency’s largest recent busts. “These agents are doing critical work every day to protect our communities,” Bongino said.
The new Deputy Director also visited the FBI’s Wall of Honor to pay tribute to fallen agents—an early show of respect for the bureau’s legacy.
However, Bongino’s start wasn’t without challenges. A veteran counterintelligence employee was arrested for leaking classified documents, some tied to foreign weapons programs. The FBI, while celebrating its field victory, also faced the reality of internal breaches.
Together, these events reflect the bureau’s dual focus: fighting crime and maintaining internal integrity. Bongino’s leadership is expected to bolster both.
“It’s a tough job,” Bongino noted, “but we’re here to serve.”
