I Demanded Rent From My Adult Stepdaughter—I’m Not Her Servant

My 28-year-old stepdaughter still lives with us and refuses to leave. I’m not her personal maid, so I asked her to start paying rent. Her reaction stunned me—she yelled, “You don’t own this house! You’re the outsider here!”

To make matters worse, my husband stood there and said nothing.
The next day, two men showed up at my door. They were lawyers, sent by my stepdaughter. They handed me official papers that proved the home I live in is legally owned by her. She has the right to evict me at any moment.
I was speechless. All this time, I believed the house would eventually go to her after my husband and I passed, since she’s his only child. But I had no idea that he had already transferred the ownership to her.
When I confronted him, he admitted it.
He said he wanted to give his daughter peace of mind because she felt uneasy about the thought of having to move out. So, without discussing it with me, he signed the house over to her.
Now I feel completely blindsided and betrayed. The home I thought was mine doesn’t feel like home anymore.
What should I do?
