David, a grieving widower, is raising his newborn twins after the death of his wife, Emily, during childbirth. Struggling with loss and guilt, he unexpectedly pays for a fortune teller’s bus ticket, who thanks him with a cryptic note. Later, he reads the note, which claims that his daughter, Lily, is not his biological child. This revelation sends David into a whirlwind of confusion and doubt, especially since Lily has blue eyes, like Emily’s best friend, Brian. David’s suspicions grow, and he begins to distance himself from both Brian and Lily.
In an effort to understand the truth, David asks the pediatrician about the possibility of determining paternity in young babies, and later learns through a DNA test that Michael is his biological son, but Lily is not. Devastated by the thought that Emily had betrayed him, David’s world shatters. However, Emily’s sister, Sarah, reveals a journal containing the truth: Emily had agreed to donor eggs to help David fulfill his dream of having children. Overcome with emotion, David realizes the depth of Emily’s love and sacrifice. He promises to love Lily as his own, burns the note from the fortune teller, and embraces his children, finding peace in the truth.
